It's his obsession. He's never gonna stop.
My Twilight Fixation
Everyone has at least one major obsession in their lives. My obsession is not The Backstreet Boys or N'SYNC. It is not Pokemon or Care Bears, Myspace or Facebook, not even Harry Potter. My obsession is Twilight.
I first heard about Twilight when I was watching a YouTube video. One the 5AwesomeGays mentioned it and asked the others if they were reading it. That peaked my interest. So, I decided I would buy them the next time I went to the bookstore.
A couple of days later, I went to the local Regal Cinemas to see Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist with a friend, and they had the questionnaire booths at the front. I told the guy I would do it. The list of actors/actresses were people I didn't recognize. Usually, when you answer that you don't know who it is, then the movie that they will be in is the one you get to see a preview of. I got to see the preview for Twilight.
As soon as I left the movie theater and took Denise home, I went to the store and bought the first two books. I didn't know how long it would take me to read them, and they were the only two of the four in the saga that came in paperback. I figured I would just buy them as I went.
I started reading Twilight a couple days later. I think it was Thursday, after midnight sometime. I read until 4:30am and decided I should probably go to bed because I had to get up 8:30am. As soon as I got out of class, I came home and finished reading the 498 page book. That night, I went to Walmart and bought the hardback copies of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, the final two books in the saga. I knew that it wouldn't take me long to get through New Moon, and I wanted to have the next book on hand when I did.
On Saturday, I started reading New Moon, which is the second book in the saga. That weekend I was helping my cousin put polyurethane on her hardwood floors, and you have to wait so many hours in between layers, so I took it with me. I read from around 6ish in the evening until 7am during the breaks I had when I wasn't working on the house. Even when the break was only five minutes long, I was reading. I was about 60 pages away from finishing the 563 page book, when I finally passed out. I woke up Sunday and finished it before moving on to Eclipse.
Because I helped work on the house on Sunday too, I didn't get to read after that.
On Monday, I found a partial draft of Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's website. Midnight Sun is Twilight written from Edward's perspective instead of Bella's. It has been leaked online, and Stephenie posted it on her website so that people wouldn't be trying to obtain it illegally. It was the first 12 chapters. So, on Monday, in between my Poly Sci and French class, I read the draft. It was amazing, and I really hope that she decides to finish writing it.
Tuesday I started Eclipse. I had a French test Wednesday, and 2 tests on Thursday, so I didn't get to read a lot, but I finished it Thursday after school.
Friday I started reading Breaking Dawn. Again, because I was helping my cousin with her house on the weekends, I didn't get to finish it until Sunday.
With reading all four books and the draft online, I read over 2700 pages in 9 days! That didn't include the countless interviews and articles I read online, or anything I had read for school.
Now, here I am 3-4 weeks later, and only 10 days from the movie! I have seen all the trailers, teasers, tv spots, interviews, and even movies that the no name stars had been in before this one. I have two t-shirts, two copies of the soundtrack, four posters, a keychain, the movie companion, and not one, but five copies of Twilight, as well as New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. I have two tickets to see the midnight showing! I also have 19 pins with quotes, pictures, or taglines that fans have come up with, which I have stuck on my purse/school bag. They range from "Stupid Shiny Volvo Owner" and "Stupid Lamb" to "Jacob Black Because Every Girl Needs A Space Heater." Of course, I also have ones that say like Team Jacob (I would have Team Edward too, but they were out!), Be Safe, O.C.D. Obsessive Cullen Disorder, and I'm Betting On Alice. My favorite reads this: All I want is a shiny silver volvo owning vampire boyfriend who composes me lullabies and sparkles in the sun. Is that so much to ask for?
This week, I have reread Twilight, New Moon, and I am about 130 pages into Eclipse. I am reading slower now that I have already read them though.
My family and friends keep making fun of me! They have no idea though, because they haven't read it!
This weekend I told my friend about it, and though skeptical, she borrowed it. She sat down to read it and nearly didn't put it down until it was finished. She really liked it, and now is quoting it too! I couldn't be happier. My aunt and cousin know the friend that read it, and when I told them that she had been a little wary of it, and then really liked it, my aunt was like "I will have to read it and see what is so great about it." My mom and grandma had already told me that they might want to read it too.
I went to Walmart that night with my cousin while she was shopping for her new house, and bought 3 new copies of Twilight. I had already owned 2. I had the first one with the apple on it. But have read it twice and the corners and stuff are bending and it looks worn :( So i bought a small copy for $5 that I could cart around and ruin instead of the one with the apple. Besides, now that the movie has so much hype, all the copies of Twilight have the cast on them now instead of the apple. I am so glad I got that copy when I did because it is quickly becoming obsolete.
I loaned the small one to my friend. I got 3 new ones, one each for my aunt, mom and grandma. I kinda snuck it so they wouldn't see me buying them. They already knew I had 2 copies, and they would have protested my buying 3 more. :) When I went to leave for home, I yelled through the door, "I left something in your coat pocket!"
The next day when I went over, I asked my aunt about it. She said that she looked in her pocket and yelled out to my cousin "She left her copy of Twilight here!," and that Candice looked over and said "no, mom. Her copy is with Mars." That's when the realized that I had bought it for them to read.
The first thing my cousin said to me was "I am at the part where Edward tries to get her to go to Seattle with him." I almost started screaming! She is the one that has criticized me the most through all of this. She told me a couple months back that she has never read an entire book in her entire life, and she is 25! I read all the time. I was shocked to learn that she had read 84 pages of a book! And to top it off it was Twilight! She read it because she knew that I loved it, and she had to see what I was so crazy about. I started looking around for it, and asked her where she left it. She has left it at my aunt's house because she had a lot of work to get done, and she said she would have kept reading and not gotten anything done. That made me so proud to hear! I was so excited.
Wow, I just realized that I didn't say anything about the characters, or anything. I could go on for days!
I really can't believe that I just wrote that much about Twilight. Actually, yes I can. If I had more time, which I will after exams next week, I would probably post chapter summaries online somewhere. I might do that, especially since I know that I will be rereading them again once I am done with this.
After reading through them the first time, I read another 300 page book. Then I started rereading Ender's Game and another book, but I couldn't get into them because I just wanted to reread Twilight again! So I did. I hope that I will be able to read other books now.
As one of my very true pins states: I was normal. Then I read Twilight.
*UPDATE* - November 26, 2008 12:24 a.m.
Yes, this is another Twilight blog.
I am not sure what I can say that I didn't say the in the last blog, besides my comments on the movie, and the new merchandise I purchased.
I have added quite a few items to my Twilight inventory. I now have 3 shirts, 23 buttons/pins, a bag with the Cullens and Bella on one side and the Cullen Crest on the other, 4 more posters, the unofficial guide, the movie companion, 4 magazines with various Twilight/cast articles, and more copies of the books.
My victims:
Book: Grandma, Candice, mom, John, Mars, Chelsea
Movie: Aunt, John, Candice, Mars, Kevin, Rob, Jennifer
I have gotten several people in my family and some friends to read the books. It makes me so happy to have someone to talk to about the books now because after I read them, I didn't know anyone else that had.
I loved the movie. I have seen it 4 times already. Today is Tuesday, and the movie came out this past Friday. I went to the midnight showing Thursday, then again at midnight on Friday and Saturday. I didn't go on Sunday, but I did go yesterday. I didn't just go to see it over and over simply because I wanted to. I went over and over because I had promised so many people that I would see the movie with them, and none of them could go all at the same time. The first night, I had tickets that I had purchased a month proir. Friday, I went with my aunt, cousin, and Mars, Tina, and John. The third night It was all the same people from Friday apart from Tina, plus Rob, Kevin and Jennifer went. Then on Monday I went with Chelsea.
Each of my books has been borrowed by several people. Right now, both of my copies of New Moon are on loan; mom has one of them, and Chelsea has the other. My cousin is in the middle of Breaking Dawn, as am I. Mars is about to start Eclipse, finally. She would have earlier, but her and my cousin both finished New Moon at the same time, and my cousin practically forced me to give her Eclipse first lol. John and my grandma are still on Twilight, but are reading none-the-less.
I don't really have anything else to say about it right now. Just felt like typing something, and lately Twilight is all that is on my mind, so it is what i typed about.
